Land of the Dead

Story and pictures from the Chernobyl area. It's a freaky place, I get a weird feeling from just looking at the pictures.

Very interesting.

There isn't anything wrong with them, just pics of desolate places, things people left behind, etc.

That thing about the silence in Pripyat overcoming people is a creepy thought.

I remember pics from a few years back & remins me of some ghost towns I've seen off of less used highways. I bet the silence is breathtaking but I'll keep my irradiated wastelands in my gaming experience despite the authors assurances. Don't plan on visiting the Soviet Union anytime in the near future.

Thanks JJ.

*) hint, hint:

Soviet Union a.k.a. Union of Sosialist Soviet Republics doesn't exist anymore ;) IIRC, Chernobyl lies on Ukrainian(?) soil.

About those pictures - this one especially gave me a spooky feeling:

The future cities of the world will probably look like that. The pictures are quite intriguing, but the reality of those pictures has a haunting quality...

Is this one of those older versions of the chairs used to give birth in? or for gynacologists to use for exams?

that girls english is awful too, shame because it could have been so much better, but a picture speaks a thousand words. In these pictures, its whats missing is what is telling the story for the most part.
Interesting.

That's touching.

I like the thing about animals too, and the big barges they left there.

Great site, I so wish I could wander there without effects of radiation, it would be unbelievable, like she said, that silence....

hey jj86

impessing page...i'll never forget that day...my girlfriend's been on Creta, where the first warnings came over radio (next was austria) and she gave me a warning call ...in the afternoon i was walking home, nobody in the streets, some cars with closed windows on a real hot summerday, then a heavy summerrain with real big drops started and i danced in the rain and thought: the end...the end...

there is still high radiation in wild mushrooms and sometimes deerflesh, even here in northern germany...

Kewl. I was actually born *after* the whole crisis and the fallout was especially high on the area where my parents live, so the reason why I suck like I suck is propably in mutagenics and stuff.
