Barrier/Checkpoint Charlie Tile

Post by Stevie D »

Hi, folks. Sorry for cracking a new thread on this one, but it's doing me 'ead in.

I could have sworn there was a tile, amongst the original set, of one of those raising-lowering red-and-white striped barriers that prevents or allows car traffic from passing through - complete with a little cubicle for the little Hitler running it to sit in. Is it just me? Perhaps I'm getting confused with the Fallout RPGs...

I could live without it, but it would be a nice touch. :)

There is a little guard house and there are various barricades but there isn't any gate that swings up and down. At least none that I can remember.

Just the ticket! My mistake - I should have pointed out that I don't actually need it to swing up and down as such, but just sit there looking all atmospheric and post-nuke. ;)

I'm guessing it's 'mission specific', but couldn't find it in there. Any pointers, JJ?

EDIT: I know about the entity-based barriers, but they're a bit cobbled-together looking. I'm hoping to find something a bit more pre-war amongst the tiles themselves, if you know what I mean.

The guard house was in the Cheyenne mission but I seem to remember them in the mission where you get the scout car too. Not sure about the best barricades, just do some searching. I can check later tonight.

JJ, I am buggered if I can find it. I've just had another crack and it still eludes me. If you - or anybody - could track it down, I'd be much obliged as always.

I looked at the guardhouse in Mission 24 and it wasn't a one-piece unit but was built up with tiles. I'm sure it wouldn't be to difficult to build an accurate Checkpoint Charlie with the available tiles. There are also stop signs that can be used to aid authenticity and a sign wouldn't be too hard to create. As far as the barricade there isn't any gate but maybe you could use barrels or fences to give a good effect.

Check out the tiles I converted from the RPGs I did the guard house from the SAD and I think I also did the raised gate arm as well.

Okey doke. :) Thanks for taking the time to look. I think you could be onto something with using the 'stop' sign and all, so I'll look into some creative tile juggling there.

And you know, Req, I'd do just that, but the thing is I'm giving Snake a hand with his FoT campaign and I don't know what his policy is on custon tiles (you know, what directory to put them in and all that). Until I square that with him, I'm sticking with the defaults for now.

Which reminds me, Snake, if you read this, I really must have a chat with you about custom tiles, for the above reason. Won't be tonight, though, 'cos I'm shagged out from tile juggling and need some time away from the screen!

Okay, but another option is to use the small pump hut or pumphouse in wastleland/wasteland objects/pumping station as guard huts. Which are probably what you were thinking of in the first place (they're used as guard huts in Osceolla).
