DAC makes me sad.
It seems like the most popular forums on DAC are the Role Playing ones, while the important places like GD seems a little dry.
Is it really that fun to role-play through text with people on the internet? Seriously..Kind of sad.

Hmm, hardly true. The posts made in the roleplay forums are mostly made by 4 or 5 persons who try to post regularly, while here on GD we have about 12 persons at the time being. Besides, most of us roleplayers belong to some Yahoogroups where the new url was quickly spread (thanks to atoga) so we almost instantly knew where to find our beloved DAC. The regular non-roleplaying members that don' t visit NMA or RPGcodex or whatever other site haven' t got a clue as to where DAC moved.
As for the question if it sad to play text-based rpgs on a forum: it depends on taste, on the fact if you are into roleplaying and possibly other things. The sad fact is that you won' t find many people willing to play an rpg based on a world they don' t know in real life, so why not band togheter on a forum with people that all (or most of them at least) can really appreciate the Fallout universe? Besides, out here it' s easier to exchange ideas and such.
Hey, same thing could be said: why do we keep returning to a text-based site to talk about stupid stuff if we could do the same in real life and possibly even get drunk in the process, pick up a hot chick and then later on do them Ryno-style?

He who keeps the old akindled and adds new knowledge is fit to be a teacher.
You're a douchebag, Ryno.
What else are you going to do? What's wrong with roleplaying? I can think of many sadder things, including your gay Psychopuffs site. And it's not like I'm going out of my way to roleplay on the internet. I do it because I like the people I roleplay with, it's a good excuse to write stuff, and it's a good way to pass the time.Ryno wrote:Is it really that fun to role-play through text with people on the internet? suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

I guess I just don't understand the fascination with role-playing. Is your real life so boring that you've gotta pretend you're someone else?
I've got a few friends that play Vampire every Thursday night. I just have to leave whenever they start. It's just sad to watch. A long time ago, these same people used to play, and it was acutally fun because they weren't trying to be all serious. And now they're like "and you enter slowly through the back door where you are met with a sinister feeling in your bloodless veins" and some such. It's pathetic.
And Cloud: I think it's probably worse to play in person. Online, I think it's "okay." But to do it in the real world is just lame.
I wasn't trying to be a douchbag. The "Kind of sad" remark was that the roleplaying forum seems to have more going on than the GD. Every time I come to this board, the RP forum's are lit up and GD has nothing new.
Also, psychopuffs isn't my site. It's run by Asmo. And we're all pretty sure he is in fact gay, so he can't help having a gay site.![smile :)](./images/smilies/smile.gif)

oh its definately sad. shit i play games for hours on end but the last thing i would do is sit around with a bunch of people (most likely nerds/people without lives), throwing myself into the character of eric von gookmeister, slayer of the great purple sheep located in phuket.ExtremeDrinker wrote:Is it really that fun to role-play through text with people on the internet? i attempted dnd once. it was alright if you like sitting in a moderately dark room surrounded by fat chicks and guys who think being an imaginary character is the be all end all in life.

I play video games an average of 10 minutes every 2 months. I do online role-playing never, and I haven't done any real-world role-playing since I was about 17 (and even then, I didn't much care for it unless I was really drunk).
Maybe make-believe just isn't my thing? Then again, I'm good at writing short stories and "novelettes." I dunno.

I dunno, online to me feels worse? (only tried it once though) When I do roleplay its with a few friends, and we laugh our asses off playing and watching some movies. Doesn't sound too lame to me.
The whole vampire thing scares me, generally people who play that get waaaaaaaay to serious about what their doing. It's the roleplaying game that got someone murdered or something, kind of a group of gothic kids masturbating on each others desire to be scary and different, though in person they just turn out to be stupid and covered in acne.

What you people don't understand is that most people don't take roleplaying seriously. I like to roleplay because it's always a fun experience, it's a good way to get together with a bunch of friends, and loads of funny shit always happens.
In all fairness, I've roleplayed D&D at a couple of conventions, and it wasn't very fun because I thought the people were pretty lame, so I can kind of understand the stigma against roleplaying. (D&D is pretty lame, too, I'd rather play Hackmaster or Call of Cthulhu.) Still, though, it's loads of fun if you're just playing with a bunch of friends and having a good time. What's so sad about that?![tard D:](./images/smilies/tard.gif)

Dac makes me sad
it has no friends
its mom looks like a dude
and sounds not unlike a star wars character
Its dad is ODed on the couch
doing something not fit for its little sister to see.

"Science fiction wiggers" is my new favorite phrase.
"You'd better be prepared for the jump into hyperspace. It's unpleasantly like being drunk."
-"What's so unpleasant about being drunk?"
"Ask a glass of water."
