I found this website about The Stand and found out that the miniseries was originally going to be a hardcore Romero movie. Instead it was made into the television series which was less violent. They have posted the original script in a Microsoft Doc format. I will have to read it later and compare it to the original book to see if it is much better. I liked the miniseries, it can sometimes be hard to make such a huge novel into a 2-hour film but a hardcore miniseries directed by Romero would have been the best.
Reminds me a bit of the deal with Aliens 3, the original script for that was written by William Gibson, but they tossed it and instead used what Aliens 3 is now.
My guess, Sauron? It didn't have David Fincher kicking the series in the balls and giving it a healthy dose of gasoline and fire. Do come up with a link, though. I would love to see what this Gibson wrote.
