A Couple New Pieces

Post by SuperH »

Just drew these suckers out, I'd like to see some critiques.

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/10641417/
I know in this one the far left edge is blurry... scanning artifact unfortunately. No way I can get rid of that, scanning out of my hardbound sketchbook, with a flatbed scanner. Meh.

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/10641809/
And here in the second I think I made the object to the right a little too dark, takes away from the focal point of the picture and adds a little confusion.

Prints should be available soon as well, if anyone loves them omgmuch and wants them on their wall.

You seem to be a sick individual if your work is any indication.

I'll take a better look later and leave comments. So, look for comments from either ~hammerofdog or ~retlaw, because those are my accounts.

I didn't much care for the bloody pipes w/teeth type thing. #55?

The second one was great, though. It reminds me of the oddish & somewhat scary images from the "Scary Stories" series of books. I like it a lot, but not omgenough to get a print. :)

Make more...Many more. If you put a bunch of similar images together that sort of flowed as a story, you could sell it as a picture book and make some great money. Even a Caldecott Medal, mebbe.

I don't know if I want to have a picture of my penis on my wall.

Regardless, it's some very cool stuff even though it's not my style.

Eh I'm really not, "sick" people's art, in my experience, is generally just nonsensical and pretty uninteresting. I'm normal enough, but I love surrealism so I just expose myself to it constantly. This is what I get.

Yah, Steven Gammel. His drawings really are inspiration for me, I love them. At least the Scary Stories ones... all the rest of his stuff seems to be generic kid's book fare.

You've done kid's books right? How easy would it really be for me to get in on that, if I did make a few more? I'm actually quite interested.

I'm not H.R. Geiger here, there are no penises in my works. There are sometimes some vaugely phallic shapes, but they're never penises. The most "adult" my drawings get is the blood.

I meant it as a compliment.

The easiest way is to enter contests from publishing companies. There are a lot for highschool students and college students. Another way is to get in touch with an author and see how they got into it. One author, David Wiesner, does some really strange picture books. No words, just pics. And they sell like hotcakes.

Another way, which is a bit expensive, is to put together a rough book, make lots of high-quality copies, bind them at Kinkos, or something, and start sending them out to publishers. Also, places like Borders and Barnes & Noble will print a hundred books for you and sell them at their stores (if you pay them). If the books sell well, then you could get a deal with them and they'll publish more at less cost to you.

A few tips:
Books of fantasy are kind of cliche, but with the right illustrations, they sell great.
Books with minorities sell.
Books on fitting in sell.
Books with handicapped sell.
The simpler, the better.

Yay, sorry for not commenting earlier... Anyways, I agree with most of the guys on the part that the thingy with the head looks better. It's surrealistic, very entertaining. I also enjoyed your earlier work (especially the guy with a big head and thin, long limbs) ... links to them as well, mebbe? I'm too lazy to do a search.

You've got talent. Talent for all stuff weird :)

Just looking at the two pics reminded me of Skinny Puppy for some reason. Great pieces I like the first one the best however I think that they could have been a little bit darker and encorporated some more mediums other than pen and ink.
Ignore my warnings and pay no heed then your live will be ended shortly indeed!

Thanks man :D

All the rest (Or at least most of the rest) is at http://superh.deviantart.com, find the gallery button and viola.

Ok, this is borderline insulting. "Yeah man, this Sistene Chapel is nice, but couldn't you have made it more... psychadellic? With watercolors?"

I wanted to do pen and ink and I wanted to draw what I drew. I asked for critique not creative input? Actually, I wouldn't even care if the input wasn't "Yeah, why didn't you just do something different?" As if I didn't know what I was doing? D:

I have a new art on my site eh. Photomanipulation instead of drawing because I'm lazy at the moment. Nothing too special but check it out anyway?

wow man you must be crazy dude you have to see a psychiatrist or something

#1: I think this is pretty average. It's not really anything? Needs a bit more realism. And the fire hydrant thing at the bottom, blood doesnt really run like that. Or look like that. But I'm guessing it's blood.

#2: You could mabye fill out the blank areas a bit more. Or have a bit more of a centre to the piece or something? Like instead of 3 equally sized things next to each other perhaps just have like a head and chit.

I like them both, but that's what I'd do to make them better :chew:

Yah crazy wacko out of control  ooc

Anyway yeah those are old ones. I would change them now too, but I did them before I had many real art classes. Now I'm so much better (tm) or not really. I have another new one in addition to the one two or three posts up. Not so good but I want to make them available for sale so I can get people to buy them and give me bling.

I've just been browsing through some of this and I have to say that that is some good shit right there. Well done. I had a look at some of the other pictures while I was at it and I like those too.

I've hung black and white art on my wall, so I don't think coloring is a requirement, all that matters it that it appeals to me.

As I'm on the subject of random praise; I didn't know there were talented artists in the forum, as I'd mostly avoided reading this sub forum. If I wasn't so lazy I'd probably find more good stuff, but there's also a million and one mspaint spurting/peeing/bleeding cocks which I have no desire to look through...for now.
Don't hate him because he's beautiful.
