Some News on Fahrenheit 451

Post by Mad Max RW »

<strong>[Community -> Update]</strong>

I know this isn't quite post apocalyptic, but it deals with oppressive futuristic societies and cool alternate history type stuff. Plus, it's my favorite Ray Bradbury story. Today <A HREF="http://scifi.com/scifiwire/art-main.htm ... 13.00.film" target=_blank>Sci Fi Wire</a> spoke with writer/director <B>Frank Darabont</b> (<I>The Shawshank Redemption</i>, <I>The Green Mile</i>) who confirmed his role as director of the new <B>Fahrenheit 451</b> movie.<blockquote><em>..."Since I was 9 years old I've wanted to make this movie," Darabont said in an interview. "I think it is the most eloquent indictment of political intolerancefascism, if you willthat's ever been written." ...
<br>Darabont, who has already tapped out a Fahrenheit 451 screenplay, added, "It is particularly relevant to our society today, where the definition of patriotism is being twisted around to mean the opposite of what it should be. Society is always trying to become oppressive, and that's what Bradbury was writing about. He wrote it as a cry from the heart, as a reaction against the McCarthy era. So it's very timely again, in my view. Aside from that, it's just a walloping good story."</em></blockquote><B>Darabont</b> goes on to say how disappointing <A HREF="http://imdb.com/title/tt0060390/" target=_blank>Francois Truffaut's 1966 version</a> was and plans on packing his new version with all sorts of crazy special effects they obviously couldn't do some 40 years ago.

With how that Darabont guy kept saying the political aspects of the book are "relevant to our society", I wouldn't be surprised if the Farenheit 451 movie becomes the spiritual sequel to Farenheit 9/11.

I thought I was the only one that didn't get a copy with the laser battle and TIE Fighters.
George Bush lowered taxes so the Jews could kill Michael Moore.

I was thinking the same thing. Seriously. What moron needs a trillion dollar CG budget to make second generation jet fighters and flamethrowers. Oh. And a robotic dog. Jesus christ. Oh wait, apperantly Frank Darabont does.

What?... It`s great, with an unique atmosphere. You kids and your partukile efxxlolz!1111 ...

There are a few american directors that could do some very interesting work with that book, Darabont isn`t one of them , should stick to scripts. Meh.

*cheers* Yay for Equilibrium! =D

By the way, i'm thinking Land of the Dead will involve a dirtier, larger version of that city. Like it in regard to it's high security and huge walls.

Equilibrium was a good movie only while you were stoned/drunk. The second time I saw it I was sober and thought it was really an overrated POS.

FAHRENHEIT 9/11 TOTALLY CHANGED MY POLITICAL PERSPECTIVE OMG, I WOULD NEVER HAVE KNOWN BUSH WAS AN IDIOT IF NOT FOR THE LIKES OF MICHAEL MOORE! OMG CRAZY! NOW I AM A WELL VERSED POLITICO!

A Fahrenheit 451 movie with okay visuals, a good lead, less pithyness, and no action whatsoever would be a good movie in my book.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

Interesting you should meantion that. Ray Bradbury actually asked that the "Fahrenheit" aspect of the title be dropped. He felt it tained his fucking awesome book. He's right.

And don't make fun of Micheal Moore, he might take off his shirt if his feelings are hurt.

Wait... Wasn't there some chase scene with helicopters near the end or something? Wasn't Guy Montag running away from the big bad men? Or something? I haven't read the book in 2 years.

Yeah, but it wasn't all that action packed or anything. It would be done if the scene was done in a purely psychological way. (Guy loses the police and watches as they track down some other poor hapless sap who is 'beleived' to be him.)

Does someone want to ex-fucking-splain this shit? I never saw the moron's show, so was there ANY corralation betwen Fahrenheit 451 and 9/11, or was Moore just blowing shit into everyons' faces like I think and going for that "OMG SHACK VALU KUZ DEY BURN BUUKZ N TEH BUUK!!!11?!?" ?

One can only HOPE that it won't action-packed. The novel is psychological and philisophical, not a fast-paced action adventure. Let's not rape this classic like the 'I ROBOT' atrocity, okay Mr. Director?

PS- There's no corrilation between Bradbury and Moore. Moore probably chose the 'Fahrenheit' title to play on the 'oppressive and cold government' connotation we have with the word because of the book.

Holy shit awesome avatar.

And yeah, there's no link whatsoever between Moore's Farhenehti and Bradbury's.
