New mini campaign for FO2
[Game -> Mod News (DO NOT USE - use MOD > UPDATE instead)]
Someone called Haris has let me know his mod for Fallout 2 is now complete and ready for downloading. Here's the readme:
Mods Read me File:

Fallout 2 - The Second Apocalypse
Made by Haris & Miran

patch000 contains all changes that u need to play the mod, it should be placed in fallout 2 foulder so it looks for example like this C:/fallout2/patch000 than you are ready to play. Allso if u get tired of this mod or just simply dont like it, all u have to do is remove file patch000 from fallout 2 foulder and game turns back to regular fallout 2.

things to think about:
This mod contains only 5 towns, 4 shops and home all regular towns are removed.
every time u enter the shopmap it will refresh, so dont leave anything u plan to keep on it.
Home is the place to unload and store ur valuables, hence it will be saved when u leave the map.
Random Encounters on worldmap may show innacurate description.

What this mod is about:
Enclave made some failed experiment while developing a new type of A-bomb, blasting everything into oblivion. So basicly the game is about going around in true wasteland with fresh encounter tables. Colecting all kinds off junk to sell em and afford to buy ammo and weapons. This mod has no ending, its eternal walking around in wasteland lvling up. And this wasteland is lot less populated making it much harder to get rich fast or use any kind of spoilers that where allredy in game. If u are a fan of quests this is nothing for u. But if u love wasteland feeling and harder gameplay, than u should give it a try.
Sounds like Fallout Diablo. Anyway, you can download the 500kb mod here.

yea me and my brother. but me being creator is the wierd part of it. i shouldnt enjoy playing a mod that i made my self. but when i made mod i wasnt making it to go public with it. i made it so i could play fallout the way i like to play it. it was allways enoying me that i could cheat my way to having tons on money and guns and ammo. plus i am not huge fan of quests. i like scawenging around in wasteland and picking random trash from random encounter boxes in houses and tents. i know this mod is not for everyone. some poeple only like fallout coz of its quests and as i stated than this mod is nothing for u.
Why were they testing a new type of A-bomb if they have so much power any way? :confused2:

Jeez. He's said repeatedly he doesn't like quests, he likes random encounters and salvaging junk to sell from battles. The only criticism I would offer is this: can you increase the rate of random encounters? I wish this was changed in the original fallout 2 campaign as well, but I'm not sure if it's hard-coded into the executable. I wish a trip between NCR and San Francisco would entail an average of about 2 battles, instead of the 0-1 you will average now.atoga wrote:If it had some semblance of a story, then it would be awesome. Why not program a few quests in?

No shit? My point is a little story would help to tie all of the wandering together and give it a little meaning. Maybe something with a time limit.bwoodring wrote:Jeez. He's said repeatedly he doesn't like quests, he likes random encounters and salvaging junk to sell from battles.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.
yea ctually i could make it so u encounter crap every inch u take. just this mod was about not encountering to much stuff so i lowered it. coz u dont travel from town to town in fear of encounters. in this mod encounters are the only thing that can give u stuff so u can sell it and than go back to shop and buy stuff so basicly u hunt encounters in this mod. u cant thief and u cant kill shop keeper to rob him. i made that imposible. so u are forced to collect junk to afford any ammo or guns or armor.
well me and my brother have ideas on next version of this mod. but it will be entire new mod than. basicly everything would be same. we would just lower amount of animals to. some people can get enoyed of some areas on the map where u meet to often mallrat and scorpion fighting. but than again just avoid those areas on the map and u can find ghouls and gangs and stuff like that.
well next mod would have a new town. where u can recruit a npc follower. that town would not get save when u leave it. so u could recruit several of that npc that would be called merc. and we would implement so that armor aperence changes on it when u switch armor. so u could go with 5 npcs in power armors and miniguns.
allso 7th town would be added with 10 quest giving chars. town would be called arena. there they would give 50 or 100 quests that u can take over and over again. quest swaps u over to new map u fight on or several npcs and when u exit map u get some money from him. and there would be 2 maps that he teleports u to. one is for hand to hand monsters and one is for enemies that have guns. this map would be cut in half with obstacle so u have shootout with those enemies but can not loot them afterwards. u just exit map when u killed them and than u get certain amount of money depending on what quest lvl u took.
list could look like this
3 rad scorpions- Reward 200$
1 Super mutant with minigun- Reward 1000$
2 Death claws - Reward 2000$
well and so on, there would be maybe 10 npcs in that arena town each giving 5 or 10 quests that u can take over and over again. depends on how much we could be arsed to make. but its not hard, its same quest u just cut and paste scripts and change reward amount and monster u fight.

I think it might be interesting to have a mod like this as a base for storybased quests where you may have to wander the wastes with a purpose rather than just to look for things to kill. I also think that unless someone finishes a storybased Fallout mod, the existence of this mod indicates that a Morrowind Fallout game might do rather well. Or are there already storybased Fallout mods out there? I keep reading that no one has been able to finish a 'real' mod.

if i had time i would make mod with quests and all. but me and my brother alone to make anything even close to a mod with tons of quests and towns would take at least 2 years/3-6 hours per day of scripting. i just dont think its worth it. anyway this mod was not ment to be all that serious or advanced. its just fun time waster for those that dont feel like playing fallout 2 all over again for 51st time in a raw. but i am totaly awere that some people dont like this mod and than there is lots of poeple that think its fun to play it. thats the main reazon why i made it so eazy to instal and remove when you get sick of it.
