Vampire : Bloodlines

Post by S4ur0n27 »

Right, now that the game is out, POST YOUR THOUGHTS!11!!

I got it last night and I tried it a bit. I can't remember which type of vampire I picked, but it's the guy with cheesy hair, a red coat and a OH SHIT I HEAR THE ICE CREAM TRUCK!!!!!111!1111oneone way of walking. The game looks pretty cool. Looks. I played only around 15 minutes and I'll start over tonight.

But I can say that graphically, it's awesome. Facial expressions are detailed, the lightning is good. I like how fighting is easy too, and using vampire powers.

You make it sound like street-fighter.
Is it still an rpg-wannabe?

Can't tell yet, but the facial animations really make the game more immersive, since the characters look like they feel what they're saying (if the guy tells you to fuck off, he'll look pissed).

And I didn't get far enough into the game to judgethe story.

It's very good. It just needs some framerate optimisation, since it's pretty bad for me, and HL2 runs smoothly.

It's probably some driver related thingy or some incompatibility with your hardware, since it ran fine on my computer, which I think isn't as good as yours.

It runs pretty well on my computer...sometimes a bit laggy, but nothing very noticeable. Game seems very awesome, though. I just finished up with the "tutorial" section. I'm in my apartment now. Great immersion with the TV and radio and stuff. Cool Indeed!! So far so good, Troika!

Well, not really a true "tutorial." But there's that whole episode at the begining when you've just been embraced, and that vamp biker dude is telling you a few things and guiding you through the area. I noticed that in the autosave, the area is listed as "Tutorial" or something.

Well, without spoiling anything, you're a newly born vampire, so some people teach you what's going on with those fangs of yours and your blood-craving (basically, they tell you what buttons do) but it's a prettu fine tutorial and it fits into the game.

am I the only one feeling that the game must be suffering from massive mem leakage?
afyter 45-60mins of playing it gets starts acting up on me, running less than less than smoothly.
It never runs really smooth in the cities only in smaller areas, I run it with 3ghz, 512mb DDR and a GF fx 5600.

King of Creation, the fellow is Jack, apparently an old pirate.

Jack is supposedly a fairly well known character in the World of Darkness setting, so don't expect to get to kill him or anything. And the tutorial was indeed very good.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

harharhar.
ok, opinions so far.
It's a tad too much GTA over the game, not much choices of garments and/or weaponry, you only seem to get 1new garment/piece of armor on each new place and 3-4 new weapon choices. I'd like to see a more developed fauna of theese two, mebbe they could have had restrictions based on summit sio one could focus on certain branches of weaponry/armor and not be restricted based on where in the game you are... and, are there no bonus dmg when shooting ppl in the head? Most humans should be bloody put down when suffering a shot to the head, regardless of which pistol you use.

You should be able to climb the walls/ceiling when you're a vampire (and sneaking or summit), but thats just my cup of tea, and doesn't really affect the game, mebbe some clan can. I've only been playing malcavian so far. It'd just a nice feature, crawling the ceiling unnoticed while sneaking, and then just reach down and have your way with ppl.
The silent killing part I do like.

Someone (prolly Spaz) said it was PC only, and yet the game feels xboxish... I don't have a problem with the view as such, it all just feels a tad claustrophobic, very controlleed and well, small. I havent gotten that far yet... but if the game ends at chinatown I will be dissapointed.

The mem leakage I mentioned seem to be only in santamonica, which get really slow after a while, other areas run just fine.

the melee combat is a little fishy, but I don't have that much a problem with it, I do like the fact that ranged weapons are used in firstperson though.

and, I found it a tad fun that they seem to use a bit of python, which is strange from a performance pov, since python is dynamically typed and thus must do more work at runtime than a statically typed language. But thats no news for must of us, twas just a sidenote.

On the whole (this far) the game seems a little dieted, its a grand concept and many things are well done indeed. But it leaves me with a feeling of how good it could have been.
At this point I'd rate the game as 'decent+', but this may change, especially if the games prooves to end after chinatown.

who said it was you shitfaced cockmaster, just because its a (alledged) RPG doesnt mean it has to be all finalfantasy with no choice about which weapon to use (and so on, and so on).... ffs, just one knife called knife, thats bloody cocklogging day. (and so on, and so on)
And, its too controlled, one should be able to try to suck them other vampires dry and thus get teh power.

Question: Have you actually played "Vampire: The Masquerade"? They lump together firearms into categories. Sure you're missing some categories (Medium revolver and light semi auto handgun for example), but all things considered you have a fairly decent selection.

And how many differant knives do you want? They all do the same bloody thing. A knife is a knife is a knife, you go stabby stabby with it. Unless it's a swiss army knife, then you're screwed. The weapons are semi short, but they could have been alot shorter. Theres 7 Melee weapons (Counting your hands) and 11 Firearms that I've found thus far (There could be more that I didn't find). What more do you want exactly? Rocket launchers? Chain guns with kewl particular effects? Stop being a cock munch and get over it.

Theres also some other things to consider, despite the fact that your character is dead and doesn't really care about the law, it's sometimes hard to get ahold on alot of the more "Illegal" weapons. Hence you should be glad what you have. You get a representation of just about every type of firearm out there.

Sucking other vampires is a bad idea (if you know anything about the game) as sucking other vampires leaves a taint on your "aspect" that other vampires can see and thus known you've broken the law, hence automatically ending the game. Get over it.

As for the armor, once again, perhaps you should see the source material before you criticize. I was actually suprised that they had 4 categories as the PnP rpg doesn't even list "leather" as a seperate armor category.

Your crawling idea would be convient except it doesn't exist in any of the clans you can play.

your 'review' was mostly complaining about combat. It's not a combat-oriented game, like morrowind mabye.
