November 25th 2004 there's an official IRC chat with representatives from ALTAR Interactive and Cenega Publishing. It will be held in the #aftermath channel at ChatSpike, and any question you might have concerning the upcoming sequel to UFO:Aftermath is welcome. More information can be found here, and at the official page.

Well, quite a few X-Com fans didn't like Aftermath because they thought it was a "spiritual successor", and because it surely had it's shortcomings. That being said I liked it, and the patches have fixed some of it's issues.

As for Aftershock, it sounds promising. ALTAR will add a lot of the stuff people missed in the first game, and they have more time and resources this time around. Too early to say anything about how the result will be of course, but if you read the FAQ at the official site it sure sounds promising.

@Arjuna: UFO:Aftermath is a game where you fight against aliens in a setting somewhat similar to X-Com. Make no mistake though, it's not X-Com. When it came it was received with praise from some and curses from others.

Most of us didn't like it because it was a steaming pile of shit, man. Have you even played X-Com 1? Aftermath wasn't even close, so naturally some of us who liked the whole X-Com game format were kind of pissed... it's enough UFO 3 was a bit of an annoyance, what with the whole "in-a-city" bizzang stuff, but at least it sort of reminded you of X-Com. This is why you suck.

Well, Aftermath isn't a sequel to X-Com. ALTAR took over Dreamland Chronicles: Freedom Ridge from the Gollops, but because they relied heavily on third party software ALTAR had to drop most of their work. And because they had to start over, they decided to make their own game with a style somewhat similar to X-Com. The whole globe, downing UFOs and going on tactical missions should be familiar.

As for how good or bad it is, that would be up to the individual to judge. There are many X-Com fans that like it, though most agree it does not measure up against X-Com: UFO Defense.

Then again, what game does? I keep hearing this argument about how it's incredible that they can't measure up to a 10 year old game. No one else can, and have anyone passed Fallout yet in the RPG genre? My answer would be no, and it's getting older as well.

Anyway, I'm not saying Aftermath is a perfect game, but I do think it's entertaining, and it's the closest game to X-Com so far. I also think that UFO:Aftershock will be quite improved, as ALTAR have promised to add many elements that people missed in Aftermath.

Never said I was mature :chew:

But I guess you're right, I'm just bitching because they stuck the X-Com game on a game that doesn't realy play like X-Com. Have fun with it.

That's fine. As I expected something very close to X-Com myself, I was disappointed to begin with, and thus have no problem understanding other's reaction. Difference is I played it more and came to like it when I stopped comparing it to X-Com in every little aspect, and enjoyed it as just a somewhat similar game. But that wouldn't necessarily be so for others.

That's very mature as well. I take it you're the spokesperson for DAC? The fact that you're not interested doesn't mean others aren't. Don't read the thread if you're not interested.

How about we ban you instead? D:

DAC is an omnipresent force, of which incarnations we all are. We represent the extremes of the same curve, the power that is Duck and Cover. We all speak as one, for our mind is separated and united at the same time. We are all DAC's spokepersons. Hear us now or burn in the fiery flames of hell.

I don't mind the people that do not like it, but I don't see the point in "spamming" this thread with remarks like earlier. Let those who care about the game read the thread.

You can find the transcript here.

I agree also.
