Does anyone know...
If you can install a 5 1/4 disk drive into a modern/relatively modern comp without odd complications?

Why? Why not just convert those big disks to the smaller floppies? That would probably be the cheapest and easiest thing to do, otherwise I don't think it'll fly without the modifcations and adapters for their connectors.

In general, yes you can.
I know some of Intel's newest boards (D915GVWB, for example) only have support for 1.44 and 2.88 drives in the BIOS, but the bulk of those available at the present have a much wider range of support, so you should (and I have) been able to get them to work there without any issues (I don't know about any non-Intel boards - I would suspect that they mostly still have support for older drives, but I couldn't say for sure.), and no OSes that I know of have an issue dealing with them.
I have a 5.25 drive in every system I have at home except one (Which uses a special drive), including several recent ones and none of them have any issues or required anything fancy.

Don't know why you would want that. If it is for games, then head on over to Home of the Underdogs to download abandonware.
Well, according to everybody else, you could technically install it in a CD-Drive bay (3.5s have been downsized, at least on my system) and hook up the same electricals and bus ribbon into the back of the 5.25.
Last time I dealt with those floppies was when I had my Commodore 64.
