It's pretty sweet, but as far as 4x gaming goes, you can't do any better than the Dominions series.

I had some fun with it, but the buzz died in the end.

I dunno.. I was kinda enthusiastic about this game, but when I finally got it.. uh.. kind of a let-down. It's civilisation all over again.
Some good things are actually missing.
the 3D is a joke - it's just a flat map viewed in 3D - how cool
the only good thing is that a weak enemy can surrender to a powerful enemy before your final blow. But it's just fun the first time you see it.
Winning by "influence" is a cool idea, but WTF is an "influence resource"?! You just go to a spot, build a mine and wait to win by spreading influence.. how idiotic - the sole difference between "cultural influence" and "military power" (and some others) is the colour of the dot inside a mine... now this is one varied choice of winning strategies, so immersive..

That's what did it -- lack of variety. Just look at the building choices, there's like, what, 4 building types that get upgraded and "oh boy, wonders" that add to stuff.

Don't forget Starforce Protection.
Those bastard publishers better be choking on that mustard gas I sent them.

Didn't Gal Civ 2 make a big deal about not using Starforce Protection? Going to the extent that a SFP staffer posted a pirate link of GC2 to prove that it was so much easier to pirate because it didn't have it?

Yeah. There was some buzz about them completely ditching all forms of copy protection but they got a lot of press when the Starforce guy posted the link and was like "SEE WHAT HAPPENS??!?!" It was a stupid thing to do, yes, but it netted a shitload of publicity in game rags, websites, forums etc. that Stardock otherwise wouldn't have got so in a way it sort of backfired for SFP.

I appreciate your input, Jerry, but I am afraid it's too late...far too late for you lot. 09-15-00 Never Forget.
